Français
French culture and communities
Ontario is rich with French heritage, in fact, the French were the first to explore the region, and the L'Originals among its earliest settlers. The lower Ottawa Valley is a great place to get a breath of French air. A valley farm vacation is a wonderful way to experience the local French flavour among the gently rolling, farmlands of Prescott-Russell and its villages which are 75% French-speaking. While you're there, slip away for a day at the Cumberland Heritage Village Museum and re-live the fascinating evolution of a small French village as it journeys from its founding in the 1880s through the coming of mechanization and the Great Depression of the 1930s.

In Ottawa, Canada's capital city, enjoy French theatre or sing along to the music and singers at the Festival franco-ontarien. For a vivid experience of what life was like for early French settlers, be sure and visit the New France display at the magnificent Canadian Museum of Civilization.

A warm bonjour and unmistakable joie de vivre await you throughout Northern Ontario. Enjoy French theatre, music, dance and events at the Northern Lights Festival Boreal in Sudbury, spend a winter day at Le Carnaval in North Bay or visit Hearst, also known as Le Petit Québec.
